What's Happening At Maria's House Montessori School?
(Monthly Newsletter And Family Resources)
From Mrs. Sinatra...
This has been an exciting school year!
We welcomed our new children and families and our children and families returning from last year. We are also excited about having the children growing and learning with their friends in our school during the next school year.
Speaking of growing, Mrs. Seaman and the children have a wonderful garden growing right now. Take a look!
Tuesday afternoons are special for the students who have signed up for individualized piano lessons with Mr. Harris from Elite Music.
Welcome to our Montessori Family!
Read! Read! Read!
1. Read to your child every day.
2. Ask (open-ended) questions about the story.
3. If they ask, read the story again and again and again...
4. Make sure your child is interested in the story.
5. Make sure you are interested in your child.
"I want to read to you!"
When your child wants to explore language - be ready!
1. Be patient and encouraging.
2. Play rhyming games and "I spy..." with beginning sounds.
3. Encourage use of "sounds" of letters rather than the name.
4. Listen and give help only when asked.
5. Share the reading if your child finds it challenging. (You read a line, she reads a line.)
6. Communicate with the teachers if there are any difficulties with a reading book.
It is important that the children find reading enjoyable and attainable. Reading is not "natural," it must be taught and practiced and hopefully, loved.

This is a place for parents to share thoughts and resources with other families.
